City of Longview site hacked, allegedly by 'Anonymous'

TYLER (KYTX) - New information on the deadly shooting at the Longview Police Department. 17-year-old Kristiana Joy Coignard was killed by gunshot wounds to her trunk and upper extremities, according to a preliminary forensic report released this morning. Coignard was killed by Longview Police, after she entered the police station lobby and threatened officers with a weapon, according to police. The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident. Dr. Jill Urban with the southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas, performed the autopsy, at the request of Gregg County Justice of the Peace James Mathis. It's been three days since a teenage girl was killed inside the lobby and people are reacting. Not just to the shooting itself, but to the fact that the story has attracted national attention. It has gained attention to the extent that the online "hacktivist" group Anonymous has apparently published a video denouncing the shooting. (See video on this page.) The Longview News-Journal (http://bit.ly/18lndoT ) reported today that the city of Longview confirmed Monday it had been targeted by hackers. “We are aware that we were targeted. ... We have taken appropriate steps,” city spokesman Shawn Hara said. “One thing that they targeted was the website.” Hara would not confirm if items had been posted to the website without the city’s approval. A YouTube poster who claimed to be part of hacktivist organization Anonymous took credit for the alleged attack. “We would like to say that we did shut down the Longview Texas city website, of course it's back online, trust us when we say we wouldn't have made this video if we knew the op wouldn't be a success, we did make our statement, the site was down last night then the attack haulted, then earlier today we started the attack again, it lasted awhile, then they finally decided to patch their security, lulz, there are no longer any weaknesses in the websites, it may no longer be vunrable, but atleast we made at statement. (sic),” the poster, who goes by AnonSec 101, commented on a video uploaded Saturday. "I think it was a little too much force for the situation with a knife instead of a gun," said James Wright, longtime Longview Resident. James Wright has grandchildren the same age as Kristiana Coignard, the 17-year-old killed after a struggle with Longview police officers inside of their own lobby. "Certainly the police department lobby you don't think people will be coming here to do anything other than file your report or pay their tickets or whatever, so it's something to think about," said Spokewoman Kristie Brian, Longview Police. On Thursday night-- that was anything but and people near and far have an opinion. "I wasn't there to see what happened. They don't have that long to think about it but I think I would've tased her," said Wright. Wright, along with a number of others have gone to Facebook to express their feelings of disbelief about the incident. "You got a gun on one side and a taser on the other, then you know, you got to think about it," said Wright. However, there are others on social media who say there's not much time to think when lives are at risk. "I was looking at Facebook and it was saying that a young 17-year-old girl went into the police station in Longview on Cotton Street with a knife and was threatening police officers," said Darcey Harris, longtime Longview Resident. "I think it's horrible that a 17-year-old had to die, but those officers had a right to protect themselves," said Harris. Longview police say there's surveillance video of the incident which hasn't been released, but in the meantime, they're asking the public to simply, "respect the investigation." "Luckily our lobby does have surveillance cameras, so we will have some video, I'm not sure what the video contains," said Brian. There were three officers involved in the shooting. We are not sure how many shots were fired, but the names of the officers have not been released due to the ongoing investigation. Those officers have been on paid administrative leave since the shooting happened.
