City of Longview: Residents' accounts not compromised by cyber attack

A group claiming to be Anonymous has released a video via YouTube claiming responsibility for attacking the City of Longview's website Sunday. A spokesman for the City of Longview said residents' accounts, such as utility service accounts, were not compromised. The video, posted by user AnonSec 101, claims that the cyber attack is in response to an officer-involved shooting in which a teen was killed. Kristiana Coignard was shot by officers Thursday night after brandishing a weapon in the lobby of the police department. The attack will not stop unless they can get their website back online or until justice is served for Kristiana Cognard #OPSLFOC #Anonymous — AnonSec 101 (@BaileyPotts101) January 25, 2015 "The website did go down temporarily, but we will continue to monitor," said said Shawn Hara, City of Longview PIO. "As far as we are aware, nothing else was compromised. We did take a couple of security measures, just a few precautionary things." Preliminary autopsy results show the teen died of multiple gunshot wounds to the trunk and upper extremities of her body. Her death has been ruled a homicide. Three officers were placed on leave following the incident and the case is being investigated by the Texas Rangers. A message with the video says that the cyber attack is the first of more potential actions. "It has been brought to our attention that the lethal force of firearms by police is being used on our children in America. We will no longer stand for this. In Longview, Texas, Kristiana Cognard (sic), was shot and killed on January 22nd by police for pulling a knife and threatening officers," the message reads. "This is is only the beginning of what is to come from Anonymous. If we don't protect the children no one will. We are Anonymous. We are legion. United as one. divided by zero. expect us," the message continues.
