Bahraini Shia abused by police and off duty military personnel

In March 2011, i witnessed outside my home, off duty military officers walking up the street heading from the sunni village of budaiya towards the shia village bani jamra. From the second floor of my villa, i saw 10 men advance up the road and stop outside my window, in their arms was guns with amo on their shoulders. In arabic the leader shouted ’ show time, lets go shoot them.’ They then all opened fire at the oncoming traffic from the local shia Dr’s clinic..the Dr himself was driving out of his clinic coming the direction of my home to get to safety. The Dr had to reverse up a main highway that lies at the end of my street and between the two villages. Cars had bullet holes in them. I did have photo evidence but due to me being muslim i was scared if i kept the photos and got stopped at a check point, i too would be abused. Never in my life have i felt fear as i did that day.

I’m an educated person and when i hear certain people saying its the shia in Bahrain hurting people i disagree. I was verbally abused by a group of boys as i walked towards the same village of budaiya just a few days later. When i replied to them in arabic that i was foreign, they mocked me and jested at me. I could see in their hands daggers (arabic short bladed daggers,) and also longer kitchen knifes dugg into the sand. I ask for people’s support of human rights in Bahrain.

Regards,
a British national.
